Higher CFM fans and shrouds didn't drop temps? - Page 2

Probably your ambient went up just in time for the new fans!

Try switching back to 40-60cfm fans and see if there's a difference.

In the future I plan on wcing my gpu as well. I have an 8800gt. I would increase my tubing to 1/2", add an xpsc top, and add a GTX240. Block would either be a MCW60 or Fuzion GPU block. With the added gpu would you expect my cpu temps to increase, or would the added flow and second radiator lower them.

Oh and my coolant is about 3% G11 to 97% Distilled water. I added about 4 dropps of biocide.

Depends on the heat load, sometimes with the larger radiators and smaller heat loads, the advantages of stronger fans is pretty small and hard to measure. When you are already running under a 5C water/air delta, gains in fans are usually no more than a degree or two.

Also thinner radiators do not see nearly the performance gains from higher speed fans that thicker and more dense radiators do.

Where something like a GTX radiator can see 5X the performance from really high speed fans, and MCR is closer to 2.5X.

The other problem often encountered is fan hub effect of the better 38mm fans. They are much larger and create bigger dead spots than 25mm fans.

Anyhow, unless you are also measuring water temps, it's hard to know what you are getting.

I'll try to get a thermometer to measure my water temps. How does the difference in temperature between water and air correlate to cpu temperature? My reservoir comes directly after my cpu and nb blocks, and this is were I would be taking a reading.

Fans have P-Q curves just like pumps do.
Just because a fan has a higher CFM rating doesn't necessarily mean it will push more air through your rad.

I find one of these invaluable when playing around with WCing parts.
The fitting is way to restrictive so just epoxy the temp probe into a PVC tee.

Put one after your rad and you can measure your rad out to ambient delta...I try to keep mine well below a 5C rad out to ambient...

I use one before and one after the rad, but if I was only going to use one I would put it right after the rad....Another good place would be before and after the CPU, it just gets restrictive if you add to many...

These are what I use..Temp Probe..This for a read-out.Probe Read-Out..I just put them in a T also, get your tip right down in the flow a little, just enough to break the surface of the coolant...I silicone them in, then heat shrink it...Just cut the plastic temp probe off the read out and add a 3-pin molex, the read out is a 2-pin female so you only need to use 2 of the pins on the male 3-pin...

You can see one in this pic to the left of my pressure gauge...

I know what it is. Sarcasm doesn't play well on the written word for me. The XPS doesn't use the best components for it's water. If it did they would use either a DDC 3.2 or the D5 Vario plain and simple.
