QFT?

Yep. I hope to get an AMD + ATI setup soon....well, not too soon. But AMD deserves my money instead of non-overclocking nehalems and nVidia scammers.

People may say ATI is guilty of this as well, but the difference is ATI IS BACKING IT UP as we speak.

How?

They release under performing products, and hype the crap out of them.

I don't know why we have so many "company oriented-fans" around, but honestly, do you think Intel, Nvidia, ATI, AMD actually care about what you think of them? All of them are trying to get your money, it is up to you as the consumer to decide what company has the product that is best for you.

Leave the "they deserve my money" stuff up you when you decide what charity to donate to.

To tell the truth... I think its debateable that NVidias card were better than ATI's. NV spent a ton of money for in-game optimizations, They (I suspect) killed the only DX 10.1 game (which ATI had a lead in), And Got microsoft to change DX10 requirements to fit the core they were working on.

Time will tell with the introduction of DX10.1 games and features, but no one will pay attention to the situation because they have shiny new toys that will dominate the cards that intro'd these features.

I have no Proof

I think the ones deluded are you guys. nVidia's marketing machine is still much stronger than ATi. When it comes to video cards the average consumer knows about nVidia. It's like IE and Firefox. Most people have heard of Firefox but they choose to use IE.

Reality is, nowadays it's not how good the quality of the product is it's how you market your product to the average consumer.

I guess I'm one of the apparently few people who actually looked at what AMD specifically claimed with relation to performance improvements. A lot of people, it seems, took what AMD was saying out of context. For example, I've seen it repeated that AMD claimed that K10 would outperform Conroe by 40%. In reality, AMD said that Barcelona would be 40% faster clock-per-clock than Clovertown. Despite the fact that desktop and server processors are based on what is essentially the same architecture, the fact that AMD referred to them both with the server codename implies that they were talking about specific server workloads and implying no correspondence to a similar desktop performance increase. AMD did deliver on this server claim. The hype around Phenom was mostly artificially created by AMD fans with the assistance of writers (as opposed to AMD itself) interpreting this statistic to mean that we would see near-identical performance improvements on the desktop side as well without accounting for the fact that the workload is different.

As far as desktop performance goes, pre-release AMD had projected 15% IPC gains over K8. This actually translated quite nicely into actual performance:

Was that performance enough to beat Core2 clock per clock? Most would say no, but it's hard to argue that it didn't narrow the gap. In my opinion, nobody should be that surprised at Phenom's desktop performance because it was engineered to be a server part. There was a clear fallout effect because of a lack of "expectation management" that really hurts the Phenom more than it's performance would imply.

If someone wants to go AMD/ATI because of the attitude their competition has, fine. I fail to see how that's a bad reason for doing so. Although one person alone will not make a huge difference, I can guarantee that on the off chance that people started boycotting Nvidia in droves that they would very much care about what people think about them.

Some of us need to suck it up and go with AMD/ATI just to support competition int he industry at this point... Without AMD, intel will stop trying.

You are correct Darkcloud. I should have been more specific.

I am talking about way back when AMD was hyping up its "3.0 ghz" Phenom, and the hype back then. There is no doubt that a Phenom is a decent improvement over the older K8's.
