need some advice on buying memory

Hows it goin my fellow overclockers. I have a quick question. I am currently running 2x1GB sticks and would like to move up to 3GB or 4GB. I am using Vista 32 so i am aware that is i purchase another 2x1GB set, id on have roughly 3.2GB usable, BUT that is only about 10 bucks more. I was thinking about going with 2x512MB sticks of the same ram, but I am not sure. Please someone point me in the right direction. Any comments on if it will hurt performance somehow would also be nice. The reason why im doing this is because i tend to sit at 70%-85% when multitasking. Thanks in advance!

I'm using G.Skill 1066 2x2GB on Windows XP, so only 3.2-something gets recognized...but I NEVER utilize more than half of what is recognized, and I'm a heavy gamer. Max out the 4 with a good speed, and enjoy!

Uh...isn't that what I said in my last post? lol, yeah, go right ahead, even if XP can't see all of it the speed is still there, you won't be sorry.

^ can you elaborate on how 18? If its hard than im throwing adding 2x512MB out the window. My overclock is in my sig and id be setting them the exact same for a 1:1 ratio.

It puts more strain on the northbridge (creating more heat) and makes stability more difficult to achieve. RAM is cheap right now. I think if you poll others, they would suggest 2x2 over 4x1.
Of course, some of us are more stable than others.
