Ok, well thanks for the help guys, going to bring back these Microsoft LifeChat LX-3000 and get something else like, maybe, a Creative Fata1ity set. Anyone know the difference between these 2?

I would stay away from 5.1 headphones. If you can, buy some nice headphones and a cheap clip-on mic, otherwise the Fatal1ty headsets are pretty decent.

you won't necessarily need a 5.1 headset. When you plug any regular headset into your X-fi and run it in headset mode, it emulates surround sound in a dual setup, and it actually works pretty well. No need to waste extra money when you can get the feature through the software.

If you want to use your sound card DO NOT get any type of USB headset or speakers.

You can use a USB headset in an analog form, you would have to pin out the wires to the speakers in the headphones, then solder a 1/8in connector to the wire. If you have continuity from the speakers to the usb plug, you could make a female usb to 1/8in adapter. If the headphones have an internal amp, you would have to grab the wires b4 the amp. This would be a little waste of time unless you really like the sound of the headphones.

what are you listeneng to , when i use the headphones/set i usually am playing bf2. in the options there sw and hw rendering i always thought sw was just all proc. and hw was the sound card if you had it. if you choose hw i thought then you can choose some xfi or creative whatever it was called at the time. i did that with my old pc and it sounded different this new one no sound card just onboard and i use the usb headset. kinda a question idk can anyone clarify
