Video Card fan problems :S

So...recently I started noticing that my 8800gt video card was making some weird noises while playing insense graphic games such as Mass Effect. It ended up being my fan, so brainstormed what would be causing it. I dusted it out, put some oil in it etc. etc. and there was stilll the same noise coming from it. So...I called bfg and asked them if they could send me another fan but I guess they "have" to do it. They stated it would take about 3 weeks to get another one sent back so..I went out and bought an aftermarket cooler. I bought the Accelero S2 after reading good reviews on newegg. Now, monitoring my temperatures I have seen it hit 100C* after installing the cooler. I even bought some zalman heatsinks to help with the cooling and I have seen no difference. What could be causing this heat? Is there another peice that I should have a heatsink on?

I don't think you seated it properly. Your temps are double what they should be.

Reseat the sink, and make sure you used the right amount of AS5. What I would do is put a tiny dollop on the chip, take the heatsink and press down on it reasonably hard. If the paste is spread out, but only around the center, then the lapping job Nvidia did is bad, and you need more paste. If the paste comes out the sides, then clean it up and you're good to go.

Also... the Accelero S2 isn't even made for the 8800GT. The Accelero S1 Rev 2 is the one you want. Yes, I know, it's confusing.

The only reason the Accelero S2 "wouldnt" be for the 8800gt is for fitting reasons..but it definantly fits. And I have taken it off and reseated it twice now. Before the stock fan went out, temps were fine.

Is there any airflow whatsoever going over the heatsink? You may want to try attaching a fan with zip-ties to the heatsink.
