9600GT Sli VS 9800gtx - Page 2

DONT GET EITHER!!!! If you are looking to spend all your money on stuff buy a gtx 260. THOSE WILL ROCK both. And to be perfectly honest just get another 8800gts 320 fro <$100 and you should be better than a 9600gt.

IIRC 9600GT SLI scales better than the 8800GTS SLI or the 9800GX2. And the 9800GX2 is definitely better than the GTX 260. And the 8800GT is only 10% faster than the 9600GT.

You say that like 3DMark actually matters for something.

I would get the 9600GT if you really find that a single one can't hack it.

Most people here do not understand SLI... I shall do my best to clear some SLI myths.

1. Games which properly support SLI would see 5%-20% of performance gain with a SLI setup. The results are varied. Crysis do not support SLI well so a high end single card setup could easily blows a SLI setup miles away.

2. We all know a Falarri can easily beats a Toyota sedan, but is Falarri really what you need?? Of course GTX260/280 can easily out guns 9800GTX or 9600GT, but consider the system requirements of majority PC games today, it is not difficult to see graphic cards has been moving too fast in the past 2 years and games companies need a bit of time to catch up. A single 9600GT can pretty much run most games with the highest graphic settings (except a few games like Crysis).

3. 2 x 9800GTX SLI, sounds like an attractive option but it would be a waste of money if your run your games with 1680x1020 resolution or lower, when a single 9800GTX is more than enough to handle almost anything. Seriously, can anyone tell the difference between 90FPS and 60 FPS?? I know I couldn't with my SLI experience.

Whats a Falarri?

ANYWHO, one 9800GTX (I own one!!) is plenty nowadays, so 2 9600GT's should be great, Id even bet a single 9600GT is probably good enough for most things...

*EDIT* and i can definitely tell the diff between 60 and 85fps, at least in older games like UT2004, Newer games its tougher because they ahve started to "smooth" framerates, crysis is a great example of this, as its playable down to 20fps.

And before peopel go off on tangents "ZOMG YOU CANT HAS SEE THAT MANY, MONITOR REFRESH ONLY 60HZ!!!". Yea, maybe youre monitor is that way, I have a refresh rate of 85hz @ 1600x1200. CRT FTW

if i had a quad core cpu i would beat your score by 2k easy and i only have a 88gts

a 9800gtx will clock higher than my 88gts by a bit too.
