I'm connected via optical into logitech Z-5500 speakers. Iv'e gone in creative console and under both DTS and Dolby I've turned on external decoder. But I can't get either standard to pass! I've also turned on 5.1 speakers, and under channel test only front channels are working. Is my card Defective?

Welcome to OCN

This sounds like a driver/software issue. You should try to completely uninstall everything Creative related and then run a driver cleaning program such as CCleaner. After that try to do another install of your drivers and software. Hope this helps!

Should I try to upgrade my software version that came with my cd? I'm new to all this but this card should be able to pass DTS right? Under creative console launcher> speaker and headphone settings; after selecting 5.1 speakers should channel test be reaching all 5.1 speakers. Voice comes out for all channels, but only through front speakers.

Creative is actually notorious for having bad software and drivers, so I think you should try the Daniel_K drivers located here. Also, what operating system are you using?

Finally I'm getting passthru! this took me a while to find out. Using wmp classic munu-filters>AC3>Main> I selected 5.1 speakers and use spdif pass thru.. Now under spdif tab under passthru, Iv'e un-checked for AC3, and checked DTS, and MPEG audio. Thes settings were aplied to WMP 11 too which is great as I don't see how to adjust settings with that player, and WMP11 is the only player that plays my TIVO files. Any other settings I should change for AC3? I don't really know what most of this stuff means.
