Q6600 stock running at 60C idle.

Thread Starter
I just purchased my Q6600 OEM with an EVGA 750i FTW mobo. Finished setting it up last night and booted it up, loaded the OS, and checked the temps with Core Temp and Everest.

Its running at about 55-63C while IDLING!

I'm using an out of the box water cooling system from my old AMD machine I built near the end of 07, The Auqagate S1.

I've reseated the heatsink twice, trying to figure out if I used too much Artic Silver, or if perhaps the heatsink is hitting the CPU mounts instead of sitting on the actual CPU. No luck.

Can anyone give me some tips or suggestions?
I may just buy a new cooling system, so I'd really appreciate any input!

Make sure you got all the air out of the system?

Its actually pre-sealed out of the box. There hasn't been any leaks, and I don't see bubbles or air in the tubes while the pump is running. I do see air in the tubes if i tilt the radiator on its side o upside down, but its done that since I purchased it (and it was running fine).

Keep remounting it, for sure its not making good if any contact with the CPU. Make sure to put a dot of AS5 on the center of the IHS about half the size of a pea.

If i had the stock heatsink I would do so, and the water is moving, im pretty sure. I can feel the tubes (super warm) and the flow of the water. I'm looking around now for an old intel heatsink that may work.

I'm sure my airflow is fine, too. All three of the fans in the back are blowing out of the case, while a side fan and my front fan are blowing cold air in. The Aquagate is against one of the fans, but they are both blowing the same way(out of the back), so for now I guess I should just keep reseating the heatsink?

Is only 1 spot of the tube super warm or is the entire loop warm? If the water is moving it seems like its moving very very slowly. Iam no water cooling expert but out of all those water systems I seen even a OC quadcore and OC high end video card on the same loop the tubes felt maybe around 26-30c which isn't that warm.

Maybe the water isn't flowing fast enough. The pump looks small.

I reseated the heatsink again and am running at 51-57 idle. I also confirmed the water is moving by holding the radiator upside down and saw bubble flash by, so I know the water is moving, and its not that slow.

I'm stumped, and I'm about to be willing to dish out $50-$100 dollars for some new cooling.

Anyone have any recommendations?
