ipconfig /renew access denied in XP - Page 2

Power cycling your router often helps. Pull out the power cord and wait for 30 seconds, then plug it back in (with the Ethernet cord already plugged in to both) That often works for me.

Setting a static IP really isn't that difficult. We just need to know a few things:
1. What type of network do you have? It's probably type C (ie 192.168.x.xxx) You can figure this out by looking at another computer connected to the same router by using ipconfig in cmd.
2. How many things are plugged into the router.
3. How many things are on your overall network

To set a static IP? Go to My Computer -> View Network Connections -> Right Click Your LAN -> Click Properties -> Select TCP/IP -> Click Properties -> Then set your IP and subnet.

You'll probably need to configure that IP in your router as well.

what type of router is it?

Most routers are 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 for their IP addresses.

Go to control panel -> network and sharing -> manage network connections. Right click your nic card and go to properties. highlight tcp/ipv4 and go to properties.

you can enter a static ip address of 192.168.0.XXX or 192.168.1.XXX, subnetmask of 255.255.255.0 , default gateway of the router ip address. then try to ping the router and see if you get a response

Using a Linksys. The IP for the router is 192.168.1.1.

There are currently only two computers hooked up to it; this one, and the laptop that isn't working.

I think I set it up right, I pinged 192.168.1.1 and it received 4.

set your dns servers as the ones listed on your pc's command line of ipconfig /all. and you should be able to hit the internet. You might need to power cycle your router or hit the reset button and reboot your laptop to get it to assign your laptop an ip address.

Okay to set the IP you could use these settings:

Static IP 192.168.1.115
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway 192.168.1.1

Sorry was trying to type this on a laptop so it was a little slow.
