Alright, I grabbed the DNS from the ipconfig /all on my desktop and set it. It got me online. Now, is there any way of not having to do this static IP stuff and having the laptop auto detect? This isn't my laptop, it's for a friend I am doing work for.

Oh, the physical address. I set my DNS and everything and am online, but my physical address is all 0s still.

DHCP might be disabled on it... I forget how to fix it off the top of my head. But if he uses ethernet only, you should be fine with the Static IP (with the exception of his router's IP being 192.168.0.1)

I formatted this computer when I received it, fresh install of windows. Not sure if that is any relevance to the problem.

are the check marks in the link-layer topology discovery mapper i/o driver and the link layer topology discovery responder boxes in the local area connection properties?
