[Anand] Radeon 4870: AMD Wins - Page 14

Overall I'm very impressed with Ati's new 4K series... But the scaling in CoD4 is mind boggling:

1x 4850 = 43FPS
2x 4850 = 88.2FPS

1x 4870 = 55.7FPS
2x 4870 = 118.4FPS

^That's greater than 100%!

Still, the 9800GTX+ isn't all that bad either; and considering in SLI it's outperformed by the 9800GX2 perhaps there's some room for improvement in the driver department?

I'm waiting till August and looking forward to 4850 Rev2.0 vs 9800GTX+ vs 4870 I hope by then the driver issues for both sides have been worked out. I also hope 4K series will become good folders too, but with their more complex shaders (aka 160x5) and hard locked 1050mhz shader clock that might be asking too much.

BTW can someone upload the IQ pics from the anand article... I can't see them for whatever reason.

there is a good possibility that the Radeon 4870 might be my next upgrade from my 8800ultra.

duh, that's what i'm saying... 2 next gen gpus match two last gen GPUs. 2 4870X2s might beat 2 9800GX2s because crossfire scales better, but is it worth selling my 9800GX2s, and my 780I to buy an intel board and 4870X2s?

My biggest concern is the cooler noise. I've grown far too lazy to change the cooler Anyone have a db rating?

Keep an eye out, Newegg just had the PC&C 750 for $99.99 shipped. Power supplies aren't that big of a factor anymore. I mean, top tier cpus are $1k and nvidia's top offerings are near $600

seeing those benchmarks, I kinda wanna get a 9800GX2 more than anything.
I'm not a fan of both, but looking purely on the price/performance ratio and forgetting the high specs and GDDR5 memory on the 4870, I really don't see why everyone is thinking 4870 CF is a better deal than a 9800GTX+ SLI. Am I missing something here?

I would rather have the GTX 280 than the 4870.
In sheer units of FPS/$ the GTX280 is a joke. It's not that powerful and it costs $650. I'm sorry that price is just insane.
