GA P31-DS3L vs. GA P35-DS3L

Thread Starter
I’m looking at buying a budget board I like the look of the Gigabyte board.

The best price for performance the GA-P31-DS3L costs £46.99 inc VAT will this board over clock my Q6600 to 3+ GHz (Check System Spec for cooling).

But here is the GA-P35 DS3L costs - £58.74 inc VAT

What I’m trying to say is here a lot of difference between these two budget boards if not I’ll stick with the P31

They're both obviously different chipsets. P31 and P35 are different. If P31 was the same as P35 then everyone would have a P31-DS3L or P31 chipsets. I have no idea how well the P31 OCs but it should be able to do 333x9 (1333FSB). That OC doesn't seem very intense to me.

Hope that helps.

P31 one is underratted. from the reviews I've seen it can go 480x7 it just "Solid Capiciter" Instead of ultra durable 1 on the p35. And the other difference is that it has less onboard usb.

Its good and i'll probably get one seeing as I'm budget minded

I am working on picking one of these up to work with an e8400 I have, just have to save enough to pick up a Q9450 for my main rig.

WARNING:
The P31 board will NOT support all slots filled with RAM sadly unless they are single bank (which 99% of RAM isn't, most especially DDR2 512mb+ modules are dual bank, single bank tends to be poor for overclocking anyway)

Taking that into account, only buy the P31 board if you expect to only use two slots and don't expect to buy any more RAM afterwards or replace it out right.

Summary:
Neither board has RAID capabilities.
The P31 supports 4gb of RAM, but only as 2x2gb.
The P35 supports 8gb of RAM and use of all 4 slots normally.

Both P31 and P35 belong to Intel Barelake chipset family so they should have similar OC. P31 is a trimmed version of P35.
