ST3250310NS Showing as sata 1 in HP ML110

Thread Starter
Hello there guys. I have a HP ML110 G5 series server here with me at the moment and I have recently added a ST3250310NS HDD to it.

Its a 250GB SATA 2 ES.2 HDD

I have created a RAID 1 array with the 2hdds in the server. Both HDD's are Identical. However 1 is operating at SATA 1 while the other is operating at SATA 2. I have checked and there are no jumpers present...so it should be running in SATA 2 mode. Bother HDD'S are on the same RAID controller obviously. I have tried a different cable on the off chance but its still in SATA 1 mode. Now its not the end of the world but its annoying me and I just want to know why it refuses lol.

Any idea ?

Well I had a look and all I can do is change it from AUTO detect to ATA 133 ETC. Theres no option to change the SATA settings. Its really confusing and theres no logic to it at all lol. I will take another look in the BIOS.

I know this is an HP we're talking about but have you looked in the SATA settings to see if a raid option is present ? I know on a few new Dell servers I've played with its gets pretty particular down to one wrong setting to screw everything up.

Aaah, so the raid utility says there is a mirror but you have 2 drives appearing ?

The RAID BIOS shows 2 seperate drive devices as it is suppose to. The RAID 1 array is functioning fine as in Windows only 1 drive shows up as it is suppose to.

However one drive is operating at SATA1

The only thing I have ever known to limit a drive to SATA 1 speeds instead of SATA 2 speeds is the limiter.

Could be the hardware is just defective...
