thermal paste question on q6600

Thread Starter
I'm running stock settings. and i won't overclock it to 3.2 until I get a case that gets enough airflow. the fact is right now is the side cover case is removed and i'm just letting the flow out. I've also noticed that i'm getting these temps - Core0-43c Core1-35c Core2-37c Core3-36c. But if i try to overclock it to 3.2ghz it gets hot like 61c full load. When my dad who made this computer was applying the AS5 he did a little squiggle line and just spread the coating on there. Is this why my pc is getting these temperatures or is it that i don't have enough airflow and getting a new case will fix that?

I use about the size of a grain of rice dead center of the cpu, the give the HS a little twist when putting it on to help spread it out.

OC'd to 3.2 and max load temps of 61c is OK by me.....
your stock idle temps seem a bit high, but idle temps are pointless as anything under 71c is OK by intel

try running OCCT 2hr cpu test, see where the temps peak at... Anything under 65c is fine...

a good HSF will give you some good headroom for OC

Almost. Here, read this and re-apply your TIM.

This is how you should apply it to your Q6600. And airflow will make a huge difference in a better case.

Also its not a Stock Fan either. its Zerotherm Nirvana and it does better performance than a Tuniq. So my case kind of has to do something with it. You think if i get a better case i could get temps like these??
http://www.overclockersclub.com/revi...a_review/5.htm

or would reseating and reapplying the paste be a better option

I'd reapply the thermal paste no matter what else I was going to do.
A "squiggley line" is way to much.

With a case that has great airflow, sure!

Antec 1200 has amazing airflow. It's like a wind tunnel.

a Q66 @ 3.15 and a TRUE should not break 60c IMO..

and yes 70c is too hot, re applay TIM and put some fans on both sides of the TRUE...

Also is that a GO Q66 or B3?
you can check via CPU-Z
