It probably won't go down much. It comes out in August and here isn't anything coming out between then to drive prices down in such a short time.

X2. Power consumption of a single card (even though it is technically two GPU's) will be less than 2 cards in tandem CF, and the price *should* be better.

Usually Crossfire is slightly faster than it's X2 counterpart, but it'll also cost a little more money.

But you also have to consider that CF doesn't always scale correctly, leaving some games with little to no fps gain...that would suck. The X2's eliminate this problem by forcing the GPU's to work in tandem on the same card.

Um no not in all games, some still only use the one 3870 chip. All the 3870X2 is , is 2 3870's on one pcb so ot acts pretty identical to 3870's in crossfire, sometimes getting beat. But that is few and far in between.

I would wait for the 4870X2, or grab a 4870 now and 4870X2 later for Tri-Fire as has been suggested. That's the route I'm gonna take.

I was talking about the 4870. You don't think the 4870's price will have dropped by the time the X2 comes out? I bet it will be going for $225-$250 by end of August.

I read this won't be a problem with the 4870X2. Something about an improved bus between the chips making the OS see 1 gpu?

Based on the specs, 2x 4870 and 4870x2 should have similar performance. I would pick up a 4870 nowas price settles down and get another 4870 at lower price.
