[Blizzard/DiabloFans] New game to be announced at the WWI in Paris, France.

Thread Starter
Many of you may or may not be aware that Blizzard has been posting teaser images at their websites including Blizzard.com, Battle.net and their Worldwide Invitational website. There has been a lot of speculation as to what game(s) are going to be announced, Diablo 3 fans are especially excited and nervous. Blizzard has been updating the teaser image everyday, creating more and more speculation. Here are a couple of articles from Diablofans.com. I will stay on top of any developments and will post updates in this thread.

The teaser splash page has been updated around 12:10am -- it is going the route I had said in one of the forum threads. Each day it seems the ice will crack further and further until the WWI announcement day where the ice will be broken to reveal the new game.

A new symbol appeared on the upper-right side of the ice fissure. This ice image might not mean anything yet except being just a teaser: that a new game announcement will be made.

At this point, it could be a Diablo game (most likely due to Diablo II Anniversary being the same date as WWI closure), Starcraft: Ghost or Warcraft IV. All these games have been hinted a lot by Rob Pardo, Paul Sams and Itzik Ben Bassat in the past year.

xusnlivin reports one of the runes shown in today's image resembles the Hel Rune from Diablo II

forsinain points out a pattern on the master.CSS file for today. Yesterday the name was Tundra. Today the name is Cavern. His pattern points toward one of the Diablo Acts' locations:
Glacial Trail -> Frozen Tundra (.tundra in CSS)
Glacial Trail -> Drifter Cavern (.cavern in CSS)

The speculation was true: D (04.jpg - fourth letter of the alphabet) and today's image O (15.jpg - 15th letter of the alphabet). At this rate the image numbers will reveal DIABLO. Tomorrow's image might be named as any of these file names ... 01.jpg (standing for the first letter of the alphabet: A), 02.jpg (standing for B), 12 (standing for the twelve letter of the alphabet: L) or 09.jpg (standing for the nineth letter of the alphabet: I).

Today's Tundra image merged with yesterday's shows this, and it looks a lot like a evil-smiley penguin to me:

Update: 12:55pm EST - The WWI Europe website revealed the WWI Shop showing the following image:

In today's teaser image there are a few new updates:

The master.CSS file added the word: Icy.

Now the three words on the CSS file are: Tundra, Cavern, Icy. Frozen Tundra, Drifter Cavern and Icy Cellar? All names could still be referring to Act5 areas. Icy cellar is the second area that you can access from the Ancients' Way (the first being the Summit) -- according to forsinain and DeepFreez.

The new hidden image shown in the CSS file is now looking like a penguin. I merged the three images. The mystery image today was titled 23.jpg -- in the alphabet that corresponds to the letter "W". Now we were trailed off completely. The previous sequences were interpreted as a D, an I and an O from Diablo. A letter W wouldn't make sense with only three days left. Unless it meant World of Diablo Online, but two letters or three remain to be released probably. Could the numbers instead refer to Diablo runes? There is a mysterious rune combination in Diablo II patch 1.11 that has not been discovered.

Zogar suggests the letters revealed so far (W, O and D) could be from WORLD. That theory could be proven or dismissed if tomorrow's image file name's number corresponds to the R or L letters.

The new splash teaser shows clearly now that the ice is melting. At the center you can see chunks of ice falling off and a lot of vapor -- typical of ice being melted down from intense heat. On the lower left of the center you can now see a new rune inside a circle. This is the Akilae Tribe symbol in Starcraft 2. Each of the runes represent one of Blizzard games: The first rune was indeed from Frostmourne representing World of Warcraft. The second rune was the Hel Rune from Diablo II. Now the third rune represents the Protoss Tribe from Starcraft II. (Thanks, Lavarinth)

At this rate, two more runes corresponding for Thursday (12am) and Friday (12am) remain. The positioning of these runes seem to be forming a pentagram. Unless Saturday 12am is still going to show a six rune. But that most likely would be a central rune.

The question is ... what are the next two runes represent? Which games?

A little birdie from inside -- and I know the source somewhat -- told me today something about Blackthorne. Remember a few months ago when I reported Blackthorne trademark had been updated? Seems there might be two game announcements after all -- simple speculation.

A GAME ANNOUNCEMENT has been confirmed! Rob Pardo told GameIndustry.biz at the GDC the following:

Quote:
"So you want me to announce the game before our announcement?" he said. "No offense, but I think there's like 300 people here, and I'll be ripped apart by 8000 people there [at the Invitational] if I pre-announce it - but it's going to be really exciting. I think everybody here will be really excited about the announcement."

With this week's speculation over the Blizzard teasers, more and more reports in the media, and numerous tips coming direct us at IncGamers from reliable inside industry sources in the past 24 hours, we now have confirmation from inside sources to say that Diablo 3 WILL be announced on Saturday at WWI Paris 2008.

With that in mind, we would like to invite Diabloii.net readers to submit their questions for us to ask Blizzard.

This is extremely exciting for all of us here at Diabloii.net. For the past 10 years we have been supporting the Diablo community and to have something completely new to sink our teeth into is fantastic. We will be at the show on Saturday for the announcement and also the press conference which is directly after, so expect reports from the show floor live, interviews and much more.

The Day 4 splash teaser has shown the ice almost completely melted down, and now a shadowy figure awaits with a evil stare.

The new hidden image in the master.CSS file has revealed the new word: Cold.

Accounted for are now: Tundra, Glacier, Icy and Cold.

As for the runes on the icy image the previous were: the World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King's Frostmourne rune, followed by the Hel Rune from Diablo II, and the protoss Alkilae tribe symbol from Starcraft II. Today's rune seems like a solar system. This is not a symbol you see often in a Blizzard game. The only thing that it resembles is an Arcane Sanctum from Warcraft III.

Otherwise it can be interpreted as three franchises and a new franchise at the center (4 orbs). Or Starcraft Galaxy? Those staring eyes in the splash page look a lot like a Dark Archon -- and if you have been reading Starcraft: The Dark Templar pocket book you will know that Ulrezaj the Dark Archon has returned to Aiur. In fact, I was at the New York Comic Con and met the folks from Pocket Books -- there was a cool front cover of the upcoming Starcraft: The Dark Templar, book three: Twilight featuring ... Ulrezaj's face.

That face can also be Diablo, Lilith, Inarius or a corrupted Tyrael. Or the Lich King Arthas wearing the helmet. Even Blackthorne. One thing is for sure. We aren't gonna be able to guess who it is today.

The purple creature image is named 16.jpg (in the alphabet it stands for P) --- yup, now it makes everyone hit the head on the keyboard.

Update: Explorer suggests the sequence of the hidden image's numbers in the file names start resembling the LOST experience numbers from the Valenzetti Equation:

4, 8, 15, 16, 23 and 42

Coincidentially, the purple images have been named 04.jpg, 08.jpg, 15.jpg, 16.jpg and 23.jpg so far.

http://www.lostpedia.com/wiki/The_Valenzetti_Equation

Even more curious is that the Valenzetti Equation page says the following:

"Rachel Blake also learned that the Hanso Foundation was forcing savants at the Vik Institute in Iceland to run the equation over and over."

Maybe LOST VIKings?

As I said on day one, Blizzard is master at one thing ... misdirection. Each day fans tinker it is one game. The next day, another, and as the days get closer to a game announcement people ends up ... LOST.

Update: Lyquid reports the solar system rune resembles quitely a lot to one of the games that Blizzard cancelled a few years ago: Pax Imperia. Another game studios published the game. The question to ponder ... did Blizzard acquire the rights of Pax Imperia the way they acquired Lost Vikings, Blackthorne and Rock'n Roll Racing from Interplay? Check out MobyGames for the game covers:

Here's the completed image.

Tundra: 04
Harbinger: 08
Cavern: 15
Cold: 16
Icy: 23
EvilPenguin: 42
[D, H, O, P, W, ?]

That leaves us with 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42.
Look familiar? They are the LOST numbers.
You can only wonder why Blizzard chose these numbers.

-

There are some pretty convincing similiarities between the mysterious figure and the lich king.
But, as you can see, there's one big difference.

Here's the new symbol...

It would be hilarious if they uncovered the whole thing and it made no sense at all, and then they just pretended it never happened. People would go insane.
