I figure, if I can do all of this on one computer, I might as well, and have the other computers free for my brothers and sister to use instead of converting on 1 of them and gaming on the other.

Anyways, would a Q6600 with a 8800gt 512mb be able to handle let's say:
- World of Warcraft
- A music player (WMP?)
- Converting a DVD movie to divx
- a few open browsers
- Norton antivirus (not scanning)
- Moving a large file from one drive to another, or finishing a huge download from a website.

Would it be able to do all of this without any lag in WoW, with less focus on the video card?
Would that even be enough to make it lag/stall?

Also, if it could handle something like that, how would you manage that? Can you assign certain cores to certain applications/games?

Get back to me, thanks for your input in advance.

yes you can, I am 100% sure on that.

I was running a Q6600 with stock clock and a 8800gts 512mb, I did pretty much all you listed except for I opened two WoW clients coz i have two accounts to play at the same time, I also opened Skype, Ventrilo and tell you what, my norton was scaning in the background (scheduled scanning) and I didnt even notice it.

PS: WoW was set with the highest settings.

I believe you should be fine processor wise but not sure about RAM.
In my rig I usually have the following running at once;
- A Game
- 7zip encryption (set to only use 2 cores)
- Firefox 3
- Trend Micro
- iTunes

Your main problem is RAM, if you overclock your q6600 it will be fine, just get enough RAM!
