Air duct?

Thread Starter
My crap dell has only one rear mounted fan and has this green duct type thing that covers the CPU. The cpu doesnt have a fan it just has a huge copper heatsink. The cpu is a P4 with hyperthread clocked at 2.8ghz(stock) Now that i took the duct off the fan is a lot quieter but i notice that the speed fluctuates a lot. I mean it will be so silent that im not even sure its on and then it will randomely speed up.

Should i put the duct back on?

In a stock Dell case I would definitely keep that duct in place especially if you haven't changed the HS on the CPU. You do know you can't OC a stock Dell, yes?

yes keep it on. i made the mistake of accidentally leaving my friends off and his games would randomly lock up after about 5 minutes. Keep it on, it keeps the exhaust concentrated on just the heatsink on the cpu, whereas if you didnt keep it on the fans would cover a much larger area inside the case, and therefore overheating.

I have the same setup leave it on or your computer will overheat. I have taken the liberty of adding 120mm on the front for the hard drive and an 80mm on my gfx card. Runs a lot better with some extra fans.

I dont know if i can add any fans to my computer. There was only one fan hookup on the motherboard. I may be able to hook some up to the power supply but im not sure if you can do that. The power supply is only 250 watts lol. Dell's really cheap.
