I'm very impressed by the Noctua

Quote:
The Noctua NH-U12P is the first of the large coolers we tested. Equipped with a 120mm silent fan, this cooler is quite large. This model is a slight refresh of the original and comes with a stronger fan as well. The base and heatpipes are also now nickel coated whereas the original was straight copper.

The installation hardware for all socket compatibility is included and is easy to configure. There are also 2 fan speed reducers included for those seeking as close to silence as possible. The larger size may be an issue with smaller cases, so please bear that in mind. They can be found for around $60.
A silent fan and it won the stock roundup, and stayed in the upper tier overclocked

You can call me a Noctua fanboy - I just found my next heatsink

I'd probably lap the nickel plating off myself, but the Noctua is a good cooler. Of course, you can get any 120mm heatsink that allows for a standard fan mount and pick up the NF-P12.

True, but the fan is another $20 by itself. Including it in a high performance heatsink at a competitive price is enough to win me over.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if they applied the TIM to the HDT coolers the wrong way. You can't use the normal TIM application method with coolers that have exposed heatpipes.

Wow. We've gone nearly two pages of posts without someone complaining that a HS wasn't included in the roundup that should have been. Someone call Guiness.

Yeah, i don't agree with that. Mine can keep my Q6600 at 71C when it's running at 3.6GHz and a 1.42 vcore, so something is wrong with that. Maybe they got one with a concave base, like mine had before i lapped it.
