[Hexus] AMD EMEA graphics head says Radeon HD 4850 sales have been “incredible” - Page 7

Looks like ATI is going to be gaining some marketshare. I just bought a 4870

When did AMD buy ATI anyyway? before the 2900 fiasco?

4850 performers better then 9800GTX for the same price.
4870 performers better then GTX260 for less.
4870x2 will perform better then the GTX280 for less.

What was that?

To hell with the obvious performance advantages and improved standards that would help ensure gaming goes in a single, uniform direction for developers!
Heh...

Instead of yelling 'OMG FANBOY LULZ' every time some one disagrees with you, maybe you could look in between the lines. Why do you think nvidia didn't want to upgrade to DX10.1 in the first place? 'BECAUSE DEY IS EVIL LOLOL' no, because it is a pointless AT THIS TIME. There isn't even a single DX 10.1 optimized game, DX 10 is already stable enough, and Nvidia probably assumed the average user would get a little sore after constantly having to upgrade to a new video card because Microsoft added some new features to direct X.

I know I don't want to go out and buy a whole new card if directX 10.2 ever gets made.

Or maybe Nvidia doesn't support it because the developers don't want to bother with another DX upgrade.

Nvidia doesn't want to implement DX10.1 because it makes it mandatory for developers to have the ability to write custom AA filters that would execute on the shader hardware. G80's architecture simply isn't set up to allow the efficient execution of AA code on the shader hardware and since they've already invested a massive amount of money on developing the architecture, they (understandably) don't want to change it. It has nothing to do with pointlessness, it has everything to do with money. This isn't a knock against Nvidia either, because if any other company (ATI included) was in the same situation with G80/DX10.1, I doubt many of them would invest in a new core for DX10.1 either. Their marketing is just trying to convince people it's useless so that their lack of support doesn't become a dealbreaker, and apparently people have bought into it.

If Nvidia would have really cared at all about the average user getting peeved at upgrading, they would have adhered to the original DX10 specification in the first place rather than pressuring Microsoft into dropping several features to get their hardware compliant. As it stands, it's mostly due to Nvidia's actions that there actually is a DX10.1 spec at all.

Assassins Creed was optimized for DX10.1 before the infamous Nvidia "We can't have it so NO ONE can!" patch.

I cannot see how Nvidia are ''Top Dog'' if they are getting served in benchmarks.

Good to see finally ATi get on their feet . I am no fanboy of any club(i.e. ATi or NVIDIA). To me they could both improve significantly on the products they make and could make it(performance) and be competitive in the pricing.

I wish there was a third competitor though . I would love that.
