Q9450 and ROG rampage issues

okies so I got the new board and a, actually quite happy, prime is stable at 3.8 at 1.21v and I am still tweaking. Question is, should I push ahead? I can not get stable at anything much higher and I am not sure if my voltages are near the limit. pll is near 1.55 vtt is 1.45 nb is 1.6 but I have tried a bit higher with not much luck. Does anyone hav e any suggestions to what to do?

First of all ... you do not need so much voltage on vPLL, VTT and the NB. They make little difference, if any. 3.8GHz with 1.21v is extremely good for the Q9450; I need 1.475v for that speed (on water). Is 1.21v what you have set in the BIOS or what is displayed in cpu-z or something like that? Also, enable LLC and use an even lower voltage. Don't be afraid to pump up to 1.4v+ into the Q9450, intel 45nm CPUs are not as fragile as people would lead you to believe.

They have an initial burn in period of about a week, and after it passes, they will need roughly .1 more volts to remain stable overclocked, and then sit like a rock.

Still trying to get fully stable. 3.8 at 1.27 windows to see if vcore matters at all. I seem to need vtt and pll that high in order to be somewhat stable at all :/

edit - what are some decent pll fsb and nb voltages? I think all it needed was a bit more vcore so I am going to try to drop what I can.

Actually you may need 1.6v on the NB for 475fsb, but you can try dropping it until you become unstable, and then raise it again. I would set PLL to stock, maybe 1 notch above and see if you are still stable.

VTT might be OK at stock, and might not. I would go to stock and see if you're still stable. If not, raise it by 1 until you are.

You are running the 0403 bios correct? Man if your Q9450 really does 3.8 with such a low voltage, I would put your NB on water (use the DD MPC-X38 block) and shoot for 4GHz+!!

I second that!

My power supply is the only thing holding me back from 4GHz, it can't keep the rest of the board powered sufficiently for 496 FSB. The vDroop is horrible with only 650 watts. So pissed that I missed that $165 shipped Corsair 1000 Watt supply today.

Thanks guys I am loading at 57c in real temp on one core as of now so.. not terrible I guess(i want a fuzion v2). I am heading out now but will prime while I am gone, 3.8 at 1.256 in cpuz now. Might be able to go lower even but this is honestly so low there is no point. What is holding me back from 3.9-4? I tried 3.9 and i can get into windows but it locks up right away. I would take insane nb and vtt won't it?

You could probably bump the NB a little higher and your vcore is good to 1.36, but I wouldn't go any higher on vtt.

Just lowered vtt to 1.34 bios so like ... 1.3 after its massive droop. Priming so far so good again. pll is at 1.55 or so and it over volts like mad, to like 1.63..... dumb board. I hope that is alright since stock is 1.5 anyway.

I'm planning on hooking a car battery to my NB

try 1.381v in bios ( should show up as 1.368 in cpuz ) cpu gtl reference to 63x nb gtl ref to .67....think someone mentioned turn load line calibration to "enabled" already. I did this to get stable at 4.014Ghz. I however had my multi at 8.5 instead of the q9450 at 8.0 but i don't think the above little changes will mess with the multi difference.
I had to make a big jump in voltage from 3.825Ghz @ 1.23v to 3.910Ghz @ 1.368v before it would stick prime small fft stable. at 3.910Ghz.
