Suggestions for Q6600

Thread Starter
Hello my fellow computer nerds

I want to overclock my Q6600 to 4Ghz...

Setup:

Mobo: Maximus Formula
RAM: OCZ FlexXLC PC9200 (1150MHz)
PSU: Toughpower 750W

I've reached 3.9GHz with 1,85vCore, stable with orthos for 24H, but I'm running out of settings i know ... Keep getting dumping mem - BSOD....

What else can I do?

Thx ppl!

You're not going to get that stable at 4.0. You're going to fry that quad at 1.85 vcore. What were your temps at that vcore?

Edit: Max vcore for that is 1.55

1.85V is way too high. You're well over the threshold. I wouldn't suggest running that for 24/7 use, or even at all really. You will degrade the lifespan of the chip if you continue to run at those volts.

You are gonna need some serious cooling power. I doubt air can get you there.

i am surprised if it will even boot up again. And i was worried about going over 1.48.

I would definitely drop that vcore! You're going to fry that poor quad.

Vcore aside (1.85 is really too too high), you may want to remove 2 sticks of RAM, or raise your SPP volts to ~1.45 (I'm not familiar with that board's BIOS). Using all 4 slots makes your SPP work harder, and it can hold back overclocks. People more knowledgeable than myself say that you should try to stick to 2 slots. If you want/need 4gb of RAM (I know I do), try 2x2gb. Sorry if you already know this.
