Faulty Sound Card?

I just got myself a Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio sound card and then got just a simple cheap head set to go with it as it was the only one at the store that had the 2x 3.5mm prongs. Anyways, the sound card sounds great, all the extra effects and stuff in my games are working nicely, but for some reason the mic jack needed to be plug into the blue connector instead of the pink one to get audio and now and then the sound begins to screw up. Tried the mic in the pink connector but no sound, but even when unconnected, it seems that sound is being produced even when no mic is connected.

To install this, all I did was plug it in, disable the on board audio controller (nvidia whatever thingy) and installed the drivers that came with the card. Could it just be a faulty card or did I not install it properly. Going to try and test this headset on a different PC and see what happens.

If anyone could help, thx

Hmmm, weird, the jack on the headset doesn't work with a pink on another computer or a blue, but for this card it works on the blue. However, is that sound normal?
