Reccomend a Cooler

OK... So i'm building a new PC, i've decided on the 4850, and hopefully i'll be ordering on 7/1. Now my question is what's a good aftermarket cooling solution for the card, as i will NOT be letting it run 90C+ even though it "should handle it". I really like dual slot cooler solution (i had aftermarket dual slot cooler for a 7800GTX) but i'm unsure if this will be an option by the time i'm ready to order the card, so i'm looking for other input.

I've hard good things about the duo orb, but am unsure who makes it or where to order it (didn't see it on the egg, atleast not by that name). Please provide links to any cooler reccomended, also i'll need ram sinks. I want either red (to match the card) or copper (to stay neutral).

thanks.

Thermaltake makes the DuOrb but it will be overwhelmed by that card. It's been proven time and time again that even under the load of an overclocked 8800gts 512mb that it performs worse than stock. After its heat threshold it just falls off the charts, but before that threshold its great!

Couple coolers to keep your eye on, the VF-1000 series by Zalman, Arctic Cooling Accelero S1 paired with a nice fan, Thermalright HR-03 would be the ones on my to-look-at list.

I'm confused...

??? he saw good improvement with the duo-orb??? Are you saying it'll only do a good job while idling, and once the TDP goes up from usage the orb won't cut it??

Hmm... very nice. I'm looking at the HR-03 GT now that you guys have brought it up. They upgarded from 4 to 6 heatpipes on the GT and it's very close in price.

How do you have the fan oriented to the HSF gman?? On the bottom pulling air through the heatsink??

I ordered the DuoOrb for my 4850. It seems to decrease the temps by about 2 degrees celcius over stock. Overall, the DuoOrb just doesn't work. Idle ~ 48 C. The HR-03 GT looks like it would be worth getting.

You can see here when the heatload (amount of heat the graphics card puts out) is low, the DuOrb performs great. But, after a certain amount of heat is applied the card simply cannot handle it, and this happens.

The same thing can be seen here and here

Thats just one example, but I'm gonna do an example just off the top of my head.

Say the DuOrb handles 100w of heat. A card that puts out 90w it will cool spectacularly, 95w the same, and 100w even it can handle with great temperatures. But, as soon as the heatload hits 110w, the cooler simply cannot even compete. Its performance drops to below stock.

This is what I'm afraid would happen with the high heatload on the 4850.

The GFX Chilla shown in the first set of links is a superb cooler!

I'd say he should get an Accelero S1 instead of the GFX Chilla though, since the GFX Chilla is pretty much an Accelero on a diet.

BUT I would say go with the HR-03GT, it's a great heat sink.

The hr-03 by itself without a fan idles around 38c and loads around 60c with clocks at 690/1100.
Same clocks with a fan idles at 33c loads 46c.

HR-03 is one of your best choices, but it is usually pricey and bulky..its a huge heatsink.

Look into the accelero S1! Its cheap and its great!
