Im a long time nvidia user and am now switching to ATI, since I love AMD and I am buyin a DFI 790FX. I was wondering I have a 9600GT and I wanted to know the equivalent for an ATI card.

9600GT? 3850/3870 should be pretty close to it. Although with the prices of the 4850s as they are now, I don't see why you wouldn't just go for that (ASUS 4850 is already $150 after rebate).

Yeah, a 3850 should more than equal a 9600GT. But with the price of the 4850's, just go with one of those. They only cost a little more, and are well worth the price.

Wow I didn't see that, maybe I will look at that. What is the Nvidia equivalent to the 4850?

Nvidia equivalent? Should be 9800GTX/9800GTX+. 4850 comes on top of the 9800GTX for most games, but not 3dMark06 (doesn't mean much really).

Yea go for the 4850, fairly cheap and should be just as good if not better than the 9600.

err so whats that about switching to ATI user?
i remembered some benchmarks showing how 4800 cards perform in Vista so much better than XP.

You never mentioned anything about Linux, anyway.. did you even try the 4850 in XP? And of course the 9800GX2 is better, it's also much more expensive...
