New rig... well kind of

Thread Starter
Not going to be replacing this rig anytime soon but i think this month i'm gonna spend a couple of hundred and put together a half decent machine and sell it on.

Also i want something to experiment on and this seems like a good way.
I wanna try some stuff. Lapping the CPU and cooler, respraying and cutting the case to try some major cable management, bit of overclocking, ect.

Hopefully after doing all that i can make a profit.

For CPU i was thinking probably an AMD X2 of some sort. The 4800 2.5GHz is only £50ish now. But the question is would a similarly priced Intel (E2200 2.20GHz) be able to be pushed further?

Motherboard descision depends on what CPU i go for obviously, so i'll leave that for now.

Graphics card, i'm pretty much set on an 8600GT. Mainly because I can throw on one of the old coolers I have lying round. Theres a Thermalright HR-03 and a Zalman Fatal1ty FS-V7 i a cupboard somewhere lol.
I'm looking at This or This, but i'm not 100% the coolers will fit. Whereas i'm 99% sure they will fit on This

Everything else but the case will be bog standard cheapo stuff.
For the case i'm looking for something cheap that i can make look expensive lol. Anything with a side panel to show off the bits and enough space on the other side to hide the cables behind the mobo.

Any ideas or opinions gents?
I wanna get purchasing this weekend if i can.

Go with a 3850, it will give the machine higher retail price for about the same amount on $$$. Also, if you are building to sell, get 4 x 1GB sticks and then list as 2 x 1GB. If someone want's four gigs, sell it to them for about $75 (sorry, don't know dollar to pound conversion, I'm in US) extra. For CPU, go with the x2 5000+ BE, if you use AMD.

TBH i'm not looking to go that far into selling PCs, just this one. It's pretty pointless buying extra RAM if the buyer decides they don't want it. Just means i have RAM lying around i cant use and a smaller profit at the end.

For CPU i've just found a 5200 for the same price as the 4800. Again, how would this compare to the Intel?

An E2200 can easily hit 3.0Ghz-3.2

What will this computer be doing? Gaming or something else?

I have an AMD x2 4800+ G2. I have OCed it to 3.0 ghz on a cheap Asrock board. With a decent board i guess u can go more. But 5000+ BE can even do better i think. And Intel 2200 also can do the same 3.0+ ghz. Hope that helps

Cool, thanks lads. I might just go with Intel then.

I have a Ruby Orb lying round that i can throw on, but i maye have to make a few modifications to get it on an AMD again lol.
