whats wrong here??

so for a brief moment......1 day i went from my comcast cable internet to dsl...i know i know...i learned my lesson. but since i have switched back to my cable modem, ive had issues. mainly it takes almost 8 minutes to load a page sometimes. unless i restart the computer then its normal super fast. then after a while it gets all super slow or something. whats wrong? all the dsl software i installed i deleted. no idea whats wrong. just as im typing this....it stalled and the screen went white and said firefox not responding....then in like 2 minutes it came back so i could finish my sentence. what the hell???

make sure you're not set up for using static IP's or anything since I know that's the case for some DSL. I'm sure you're not though, as it would probably not let you even connect if you still were.

no idea how to check to see if i am using static ip. i literally had the dsl working for maybe 30 mins, and the speed was soo crappy i took it back

ah. well if you didn't have to set it to static IP to set the DSL up, then I'm sure that's not the problem. Maybe someone else will have further input. If I come up with something, I'll be sure to post.

When it takes 8 minutes to load a page or FireFox doesn't respond does your little light on modem for your connection flash or turn off? For DSL it's the DSL light no idea what it is for cable...

alright lets be a little more clear here.

whats the setup between the internet and you

do you have a router? or are you directly connected to the modem.

probably a software issue, do you have another computer to try out?

That sounds like a cache issue or router/modem issue.

If you are set up for a static IP, then try to clear some of the ARP cache, DNS cache, etc.
Do all of these:
Quote:
/release Release the IP address for the specified adapter.
/renew Renew the IP address for the specified adapter.
/flushdns Purges the DNS Resolver cache.
/registerdns Refreshes all DHCP leases and re-registers DNS names
/displaydns Display the contents of the DNS Resolver Cache.
If you are using a DHCP IP, then try to repair the connection.

Also, try powercycling your modem, router, switch, computer, anything connected to the INternet.

Try clearing any cookies, cache, memory, saved web pages, etc in every browser you use.

i do have a router yes......its a wireless linksys that is wired for my desktop and wireless for the laptop but i seem to have issues with the laptop at all

Open and administrator command prompt .



then type "ipconfig /renew" without the speech marks.
next type "ipconfig /flushdns"
then "ipconfig /registerdns"

I wouldn't bother with the rest.
