I'd say AoC. Unless you want a game with a huge learning curve.

The only problem with Eve is that all the skills are Time based, as in you have to have played the game for XX days to get stuff becuase it takes days to train skills, people who have been playing the game will forever be ontop and theres truly no way to catch up. The game is still great as long as you doing mind not being the best , i'd also suggest you play with other people makes it alot funner, i just started playing aoc and the game is great so my suggestion would be Aoc

While is is definitely time based skill-wise there is no such thing as being behind the older players permanently. Due to the way EVE's training works the senior players which i happen to be are always dealing in diminishing returns. Skill level 1-4 is the biggest difference yet from 4-5 is the biggest time gap. I know of plenty of successful PVP'ers who are under 1 year old.

I would have to say to enjoy EVE you need to get into a good corp and alliance otherwise you'll get bored fast. The best thing is is that since CCP (the company that develops EVE) recently acquired another MMO company (Whitewolf) they are actually getting ambulation (walking in stations) so youll no longer be stuck in your ship. You will be able to walk around the station setup shops and play games as well as customizing your character.

So definitely keep an eye out on EVE over the next coming months. and keep in mind that all the expansions are free...
