Let me give a little note about game physics. It isn' real physics and will never be real physics. I will put my quad core under hours of 100% load and massive memory usage (over 4GB) to simulate stress on a small structure. You cannot do that in real time!

Did you notice that nVidia already offered PhysX to AMD?

That would make Radeon be the only one with PhysX and Havoc support.

1. i do notice a difference.
2. i could use that same argument for "why do we need dx9, dx8 looks fine when playing games", dx9 had its day in the sun, it is time to be replaced.

As always, every time ATI and nVidia technology being compared topic turns to fanboys smack without any reasoning (in most cases) but prolonging marketing b*lls*tt, full 7 pages of it. Grow up people and stop making post and debates putting emotions toward certain brand as a cornerstone of truth.

P.S.: As for SC2, Blizzard never make most hardware demanding games out there, they are focusing on the average user, so ATI support (if it even will be the case) wouldn't matter much in terms of real world performance.

When most of the dx10 effects can be adapted on dx9 there's a problem. They should have spent more time refining the effects on dx9 before releasing 10 that offered marginal advances. I understand if you can make something better you should do it, but it's too marginal for me to care.

Effects can be done more efficiently on DX10. There are also plenty of small nuances that were possible because of DX10 that you will not get on DX9. What do you mean by refining the effects? They are as simple as they are going to get if you are talking about a feature already in the API and not a set of features utilized to create an effect; and if you are talking about the latter, then that is exactly why DX10 is welcome, as it adds many more features to the API. Releasing DX10 added many more features to the programing, making it easer for game developers to do the same effects, and adding more effects as possible.

As far as games like Crysis go, which utilize both DX9 and DX10, I'm still not entirely convinced that all of the DX10 features appear in the DX10-to-DX9 hacked version, or at least not as efficiently. And Vista now performs just as well as XP with games, so there really is no reason not to use the updated DX10 over DX9 (aside from the whole "I don't want to get a new OS" bit).

You're looking way too far into it. It's not about enhancing the performance, it's all about getting ATI's logo in the game. There are more Blizzard fanatics out there than there are ATI or Nvidia fans, and if they see that Blizzard "endorses" a certain product, they're going to buy it.

There seems to be some confusion as to what DX10 was meant to be. DirectX 10 wasn't designed to be a huge graphical leap from DX9 and that's why you can reproduce a lot of the "new" effects in DX9. What it was meant to do was improve efficiency and performance for all cards, but mid-range cards in particular by allowing developers to achieve the same results with fewer API calls. The reason it isn't having the intended effect yet is because so far there hasn't been a game coded in pure DX10. And the games that do implement DX10 use it to add additional features that do decrease performance. However the problem isn't the overhead of the API itself, it's how it's used.

You overestimate the power of advertising. With nvidia it is about performance. When you see the TWIMTBP logo that means that nvidia provided some optimized code in return for the logo usage. If ATI isn't doing the same they're just wasting their time.
