How about CF 4870X2's when they debut? Buy a temp card in the mean time...

4850 is about 5-10% faster than the G92-350(88GTS512) If SC2 gets DX10.1, the gap will be bigger. And don't forget that SC2 gets Havok and not PhysX
Thanks, good to know the fan is fix. Hopefully the temp is some where of 60... its good that SC2 using Havok, since SC has been my all time favorite.. i still play the brood version...

Nice... decide to take the risk now. However one last question... My B-day is on July 5, the 4870 should be out by then right? and it seem like the 4870 has a much better cooling solution .

I think the HD4870 has 10C lower temps, I might be off by a bit. There are three HD4870's on Newegg right now. I suggest you wait for a VisionTek to appear though. They have a lifetime warranty unlike the 3 year standard warranty that all the other AIBs offer

HD4850 temps are usually 80C at load and 70C at idle. It's highly dependent on your case's temp and fan speed you set(do it manually) One thing that I have to warn you about, at this moment, ATI hasn't fully implemented a clock down driver for the HD4k. This means they will always run hot right now until a driver update. ATI releases drivers every month if you didn't know.

I have seen many game benchs placing a single hd4850 at (sometimes a little higher too) the single HD3870x2 so if it scales @ a decent rate, than dual 4850s in CF should be or will still be @ or better than dual 3870x2s in CF... Atleast on a gaming front... Folding however may be a different story.

If I remember right every time you add another card you get a little less from it.

In games that a coded well (SuperCom) 2xHD3870x2s will outperform two HD4850's.

If I were you I would just wait until the 4870x2 comes out if your willing to spend the cash on it. Your GPU will hold you over until then. Besides what games between then are coming out that your going to need more performance for?

He's on a 19" monitor, he doesn't even need that power to max out every game on the market right now.

for most people, you might wanna choose Hd 4850 Crossfire over HD 3870x2 Crossfire. Power comsumption heat, all better on 2 gpus over 4 and scaling for one thing is 4 times worst with 4 gpus than 2 gpus. Of course better coded, easy to optimized already games is 4 times better. two wins cancel each other out, unless you play crysis.

i'd say get 2x 4850s... they're bound to improve with time.

or wait, with your current rig, and then get a new mobo and a pair of 4870s
