[Engadget]2003 Bill Gates email reveals frustrations with Windows XP - Page 4

Would Bill Gates really say this, "I decided to download (Moviemaker) and buy the Digital Plus pack ... so I went to Microsoft.com. They have a download place so I went there."

They have a download place. Really he said that?

Does it matter if its fake or not?

The point is that this could happen to anyone, and I don't think the person who wrote that was exaggerating at all.

I know a lot of us can tolerate it, and I actually find it kind of amusing that using my computer turns out to be a problem solving puzzle. Good brain training =D

And yet... This is the same OS that thousands want to cling onto?

Please click the original links - spoofing emails is no problem, but one usually does NOT spoof them when giving evidence in a court trial (especially if they are of as minor significance as this).

Some of you should also become aware of this nifty thing called perspective - it allows you to put yourself "in somebody else's shoes" and try to think and do as they would. Gates wrote this as though he were a typical Microsoft customer who wanted to download Movie Maker.

I don't think it is ridiculous to question the origin and validity of the email. Most of the people asking or calling "fake" are in fact aware of perspective.

Thanks for reminding me though.

However I wonder why someone like Gates would spend his time acting as if he were some home user then sending an email in the same manner. I would imagine he would be more forward.

I understand it is part of an antitrust case and is probably real. However it just doesn't add up that well for me.

he was upset with windows usability, So he sent an email the research and usability team from the perspective of a customer. Boy that's a real brain bender huh...

It is not all from another perspective.

Again I am not saying it is fake, it just doesn't jive all that well for me.

I dont think we fully understand the "context" of this email.

I was surprised by some word choices, but I guess he was just trying the consumer POV.
