[Engadget]2003 Bill Gates email reveals frustrations with Windows XP - Page 5

I dont know if this is fake or not. It does seem that MR. Gates would be a little more compitant then the email makes it out to be. I also would not put it by a large corporation to fake this even for evidence. I really dont think that M$ took the monopoly case very seriously anyway.

So are we just ignoring this then?

The PDF containing this email can be found here and is called PX07199.pdf (this email is the last in the pdf)
I found the source through this website, which is devoted to the antitrust case

As Shakespeare might say: "Much ado about nothing".

There is really no issue here. Who cares whether this happened or not.

If it's real (the email is, not sure whether it's from Bill.. might been some spoof that fell through the cracks and ended up in the package that's used in the case), it's a lame attempt of Bill to step into an average user's shoes.

Usually Bill is very direct and no nonsense to those who work for him, and he won't write an e-mail that long (he'll just call them a bunch of idiots and their work total crap - that's his usual approach).

Oh well... carry on, but just be polite towards each other.

That's what I was thinking.

If he really wanted to get something fixed, he'd tell the usability team exactly what was wrong and how it would need improvement. It would save him some time, and also save the usability team some time.

When you are CEO/President/Owner or whatever Gates was, he doesn't sit there and program. That may have been what he did to get to that point, but what Gates was doing was RUNNING the company. So how about you all stop calling "fake" like little kids, eh?
yea pretty much, gates is an entrepreneur, was he a gifted programmer when he was a kid? hell yea, but its that and the combination of his buisness skills that got him where he is. he is a very smart man. Predicticed the future of computing and set it.

Why? He's a geek not an english major. Heck, IIRC, he didn't even graduate college.

Interesting read. Thanks for posting.

In 2003 he wasn't a geek anymore... he was (and still is) one of the savviest businessmen in the world (probably the savviest). I think he actually never WAS a geek... note that MS isn't built on his programming skills... it's always been business for him.

And the use of language in this e-mail isn't the only issue. It's just not Gates. Gates is straight to the point (including foul language). He doesn't put ANY message to his employees in any sort of sugar coating. He'll simply say that it sucks and you're a bunch of idiots...

He sounds almost exasperated. Like he had gone over similar problems before...

Hahahaha... trust me: if Gates was at the end of his patience, he would scold them in terms I cannot repeat here.

PS: I know several people who work at MS, and my description of Gates isn't just from whatever I read on the Internet. Within MS, Gates is known for being direct and no nonsense. Any MS Employee would not take this email serious.

I would agree with you, i too actually know someone in management at MS (her nickname is missmels on another site, i always ask her for free stuff, lol.)

She says he's pretty hardcore, and flips out a lot.
