Vista start menu annoyances...

Is there any way I can make the Vista start menu operate like the XP one? When I hit "All Programs", I want the list of all programs to open in it's own menu, and I want it to work like the XP one in that when you hover the mouse over a menu item, it opens up in another menu. I do not like clicking on them like a collapsible menu; it's slower and awkward.

Also, can I make it to the main entries in the start menu are also menus, and not just links to folders. So like when I hover my mouse over control panel, it opens in a menu, and not the explorer window? You could do that in the XP start menu, and there does not appear to be a way to do it in the vista menu.

So far Vista has been an annoying experience.

And is there any way to get rid of the search bar, and replace it with a link to the normal advanced search like it is in XP??

I am using the classic start menu. You can do the auto open file hover thing you are looking for.

Right click on your Start menu > Properties > Start Menu tab > Check Classic Start Menu > Apply > OK

I don't know about the Control Panel thing though.

No, I don't like the classic menu. Thats like the one from windows ME/98SE. I specifically want the one from XP, which was the most useful and functional.

Sorry, but there is no way for you to return it to be exactly like the windows xp start menu, im sure there is a mod somewhere out for it, but none that I know of.

I would like to enlighten you on the fact that you can however enable all the same features that were on the xp start menu.

I.E. Run etc.

Just right click on the start menu and go to [properties -> Customize] There should be a list there that lists all the functions available to enable, along with extras offered only by vista.

The way Vista is designed is to not even go to "All Programs."
Just start typing the first letters of whatever it is your looking for in the start search.

I used to get annoyed by the same thing when I first got Vista, then I realized thier intention. This way is so much more efficient.
