[Giz] Intel Skipping Vista - Page 2

I have used Vista for a couple of months, and I don't see what the problem is. Turn off the UAC, kill the unnecessary processes, and boom! A prettier version of XP.

Plus, 64-bit Vista is much more stable then 64-bit XP.

Also, lol @ the guy who has an internet cafe with crossfire video cards.

If an OS can do what you need then it is good... I still have 98 installed on one machine and it does fine.... It is all personal taste.. Nothing more...

'Supposed' being the key word. Thus, I expect it mid-2011, if we're lucky.

@ Coldnapalm: less resources? Huh? The only thing that Vista uses more of is HDD space. RAM is used more efficiently (yes, it seems that Vista uses more RAM, but that's the pre-fetching feature. The moment an application needs RAM, Vista releases it.)

@ Magic8ball: have you tried Vista (for more than a month that is, since the OS needs at least that time). Vist after SP1 is superior to XP in every aspect.

It is true that prefetch gives the appearance that more RAM is being used than truly is, but the OS still uses more memory than XP.

Nothing soon about it.

Win95
Win98: June 1998
Win2000: Feb. 2000
WinXP: Oct. 2001
WinXP SP1: Sep. 2002
WinXP SP2: Aug. 2004
Win Vista: Jan. 2007
Win 7: Jan. 2010

Vista was just tremendously late. It should have been MUCH earlier. As you can see, OS-es used to follow up on each other in less than two years. I included the SP's for XP, since they actually fit quite nicely in the pattern...

We should have had Win 7 about two years ago

Much more accurate. The SP's kinda fit the chronological pattern, but they have no place in a list of OS releases.

I do agree that 7 is not really "soon" - it just seems that way because the adoption of Vista was so slow after such a long time of XP (the wait for Vista SP1 is also worth mentioning).

I'm skipping Vista as well. I love XP and until something can top it by my standards, I feel no reason to switch. I do have a feeling Windows 7 may be something special.
