Trying to Stabilize Q6600 at 3.6Ghz

Thread Starter
Recently I lapped my cpu and heatsink and my temps dropped a significant amount, so I figured I would try pushing my Q6600 just a little bit further. I had my cpu set at 3.4Ghz (8x425) so I decided to set it to 400x9 to reach 3.6Ghz.

When I stress test with Prime95 (using only 1GB of ram) I usually get a rounding error anywhere between 30 minutes to an hour. When using 2GB's of ram I get the error within 5 minutes. My load temp never goes over 60C on the hottest core.

Here are my settings as of right now:

Multiplier x9
x CPU Host Frequency (Mhz) 400
System Memory Multiplier (SPD) 800

DDR2 OverVoltage Control: +.03v (default is 1.8v)
FSB OverVoltage Control +0.3v
(G)MCH OverVoltage Control +0.3v
CPU Voltage Control 1.45V

Could my memory have a problem or will my chip just not reach 3.6Ghz?

I'm thinking since we're running completely different cpu's, what works for you won't work for me.

I have found both on my q6700 g0 ( 3 week old oem)and q6600 g0 ( 3 months old) that you reach a sort of wall ,
and to get small increases in cpu speed you need to pump in the volts.

your temps should be ok upto 70c for torture testing (which should equate to short periods of time in real life - unless like me you do media coding which takes all cores to 100% i keep it under 60 )
so you could take your vcore up to 1.46 - 1.47 ( after vdroop ) by the looks of your temps

My q6600 is 100% stable @ 3.6Ghz using my settings. See sig rig.

I have heard that A-DATA Ram is absolutely useless and elsewhere I have heard they are pretty good bargains. TWICE today I have come across people on this forum with overclocking problems and both of them have A-DATA ram.

Not sure who you're asking, but if your asking me,

I don't use coretemp; Everest is more detailed.
Um the chip was bought put in rig around start of March. Overclocked at the end of March. Ambient around 17C right now. (It's winter in Australia!)

These temps are the temps I am getting right now sitting here but if you want to see what I usually get, see my thread on Scythe Infinity Cooling @
http://www.overclock.net/air-cooling...mini-fans.html.

That is a review of 3.2Ghz and 3.6Ghz temps and fans. It also might be useful to the author of this thread as he can see what temps he may get with upgrading the heatsink/fan/thermal compound.

I suggest putting your vcore at 1.48 volts in the bios and the ram to 1.9 or 2 volts. See how it goes from there.

Edit: I don't know exactly what ram you have but I would just put 2 volts on it.

Well it turns out my ram isn't the problem since I tested both sticks with Memtest and they both passed the tests. Hell, for bargain ram my A-data sticks have been through a-lot and they've gone through it all with flying colors.

As of right now, I have the Vcore set to 1.4825 and it seems to be working so far. My ambient temp is 24.5C, which is unusually high for my room. It's usually down around 21 or 22, so my temps may be a little higher than usual. I'm gonna let Prime95 run until I go to work at 4, so hopefully it's stable until then.

Which Prime95 test are you running? Blend, Small FFT or Large FFT?
