Trying to Stabilize Q6600 at 3.6Ghz - Page 2

I'm having the same issues. Sometimes If i clock too high my computer does this thing where it boots up for one second, shuts down, and then boots up again to be stable. What am I doing wrong? Also, is setting your FSB and MCH voltages more than +.1 dangerous? Haha and sorry, one more question, is stress testing under 2 instances of orthos and monitoring using coretemps a good idea, or is there a better way?

I'm running a blend right now. I definitely don't think it's my ram since both sticks passed 2 instances of Memtest. I actually had my Vcore set to 1.475 instead of 1.4825, so I'm going to try the latter right now. It was stable for about 30 minutes at 1.475 and then I got a rounding error. Since 3.4Ghz is 24/7 stable for me, would it be alright if I only did benchmarks at 3.6Ghz?

Yes, benchmarks will run, but Prime will not... which is fine, few applications stress the CPU as much as Prime, or folding@home, and OCCT and orthos...

Well it was stable for four hours at 3.6Ghz with a Vcore of 1.4825 I believe. The hottest it ever got was 65C and most of the time it never went over 60C on the highest core. Lapping my cpu and heatsink really helped me out I think. Before my temps would go over 70C at only 3.4Ghz, so I'd have to say I'm quite satisfied.

You need to increase your PLL or FSBv to stabilize your cpu. Dual cores dont require as much PLL/FSBv as Quad's do.

*Increasing my FSBv allowed me to lower my vcore to 1.42 under load...from 1.48.

Eh, even if I do that my temps won't go any lower. At the most it may increase the life of my cpu, but considering I'm only going to keep it for a year MAX it really doesn't matter that much to me.

it doesnt matter if you are using it for two weeks... you might need it to be stable to use it. at least reliably anyhow.
