Help installing ram

Thread Starter
im trying to install ram on my new mother board, its ddr3 dual channel.
i tried using the slots 1 & 2 but i got no video, then i used just slot 1 and it works, i switched ram sticks thinking one was bad and i got a long beep. Then i tried slot 3 & 4, works fine. why wont slot 1 & 2 work at the same time?

system setup
evga 790i ultra
cpu intel q9450
ram ocz ddr3 1600 7-7-7 20 1.9v 2gig
gpu 9800gtx
psu 550watt
random dvd drive

if it has anything to do with it the mb set the ram to 1333 1.5v but i changed that and the timmings to the rams specs
im also at bios p05

When installing RAM in dual channel mode the two DIMMs must be installed in similarly colored DIMM-slots.

Yeah, 1&3 2&4. Match colors to sticks. There should be a picture of it in your mobo manual.

Yeah, so you either put your sticks in 1 and 3, or 2 and 4...you can't go 1 and 2 or 3 and 4, DIMM slots don't work like that.
