500watts enough?

Thread Starter
So i'm running only 500 watts on my current rig, and all is well as it is now, but i have a 4870 on the way as we speak, and im wondering 2 things. does the 4870 use more power than my current GTS G92, and if it does, will i need a new PSU (yes i know i need a new one in any case, but if i don't have to i won't at this point financially)

Well since your current PSU is a no-name then I would highly suggest getting a new PSU when your HD4870 arrives.

Something like the Corsair 650TX/750TX would be good and relatively cheap. I think I remember seeing someone posting a link to Buy.com for the 750TX on special for $100.

I'm retarded, i didn't even think about how many power cables it needs. It sucks so im just going to get a better one. It only has 1 btw, and it's not a good PSU to begin with

agreed on those PSU choses

get this one and you'll be set http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139005

or this one for cheaper price http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139004

both will run a 4870 with no problems

System Requirements: 1GB RAM; available PCI Express x16 slot; 500W or greater power supply with two 75W 6-pin PCI Express connectors
It should work, but as said above, getting one that is more efficient might be suggested.

Ah yes, here it is. Corsair 750TX for $99.99 + Free S&H @ Buy.com.

And yes PC Power & Cooling are also make very good PSU's (or their OEM does, whatever) but for the same price ($10 and free S&H cheaper to be exact) I would take the 750TX over the Silencer 610.

for that price get the 750TX it has 4x PCI-E power cables so you can run 2x 4870 if you choose too, and it will be more future proof for other video card upgrades
