Nvidia & ATI Hype Help

Thread Starter
Ok so i recently upgraded the sig rig to include 2x8800GT and OC'd them as Seen Here (724/1776/999). Now I see all the shiny new cards coming out and the 4850's vs the 4870's vs 9800GTX vs 9800GTX+ and I am getting a bit confused.

I see the value of benchies and everyones opinions... but given my 20K 3dmark06 and 35FPS avg Crysis bench's I gotta say I still think 8800GT in SLI is a great bang for the buck. The cards are going for 100-150 each these days and if you have an SLI board .... it seems like a great choice. All of my bench's have me within a few frames of the 280's and 4870's at 1680x1050 with upto 4xAA. Aside from e-Peen is there any real reason for me to hop on the newer cards line up (either ATI or Nvidia) with my current performance (gaming @ 1680x1050 on a 22") ?

From what I've seen so far on this forum, 8800s are the best price/performance card you can buy right now and still play everything worth playing.

2 8800GT's will still play everything out right now just fine (Assuming you don't go max settings on new stuff at 1920*1080)

yeh if you are thinking of getting a new monitor then yes a upgrade may be an option, otherwise hold onto the gt's and wait for your next upgrade cycle

I run Crysis at High @ 1680x1050 w/o any issues right now so I think I should be "ok" until Nehalem arrives ... maybe... LOL

That would be the case before the 4850 came out. But when these are going for $150 after rebate already, I don't see how an 8800GT beats that at the same price point?
A single 4850 will get you 16k 3dmark, and it's only around $200.
the 8800gts will hold u over fine, but in my situation x1900xtx-flashed to toxic- the 4850 is pretty tempting for the price

8800GT's are good value for those who already have one and an SLI board...

as for people building new systems or stuck on the older (2900) ATI architecture, or anything before that, it's a good time to jump ship
