ASUS Xonar D2 OR Auzentech X-Fi Prelude?

Well I did have my mind set on the prelude to accompany to soon to arrive Z-5500's but I am not so sure. I will be using optical ToSLINK from card to speakers.

The Xonar D2 seems to have all the stuff that the Prelude has, whilst also including a MIDI bracket as well. (I am a musician and this would help).

The main use will be playback of rock and metal as well as recording guitar via an input from equiptment Via Digital Coaxial cable. I do play games as well and I like to immersed in the games I play.

The Xonar also includes a nice big bundle of cables and I don't hear about any driver issues. Add to that it is £30 cheaper.

What should I go for guys?

Prelude has a better DAC, "better" oamps then the Xonar (some say at least), and the X-Fi is trully what shines with gameplay.

I personally say the Prelude.
Though, I cannot be one to speak for or against the Xonar being I haven't owned one.

But, quality hardware says that the X-Fi is certainly better for gaming.
As for multimedia, the Prelude does magnificent work for music and movies even with the X-Fi. (as compared to the Creative X-Fis which weren't as good with music)

I am leaning towards the prelude already based on its reputation but I want to hear what a few of the Audio Guru's think.

Well lets put it this way

Asus makes everything from GPUS motherboards Ram etc.

Auzentech is just focused on sound cards..

Im very happy with the Prelude and my MS-2s

I haven't listened to the Asus D2 so i cant really say if its good or bad.

I am reading more and more reviews saying the Prelude is the most amazing sound card I can buy.

But my question is, how big is the sound difference between the Xonar and Prelude?

After a fair bit of thinking and reading.. It seems apparent that the X-Fi Prelude beats out the Xonar overall which is why I placed an order for one last night.

Enjoy your purchase! In terms of sound quality, there was a review posted in the news section, and the Xonar came out cleaner and offering slightly better fidelity compared to the Prelude. But I don't think that it will be anything you can discern by ears unless you have ultra-fi gear, if you do you wouldn't be looking at sound cards anyway.
