GTX 260 Out today! As well as NEW DRIVER 177.41 - Page 2

I'm not going to spend more money on a new motherboard for crossfire for 150 or 200 bucks. So not worth it.
I plan on getting another 260 later when the price drops so I can do SLI.

Nice way to jump to conclusions there.
Then why don't you just wait for the prices to drop? What you have now is more than enough to wait for when nVidia drops the prices below $300. Trust me, it won't be long, competition with ATI is heating up, they can't allow the 260GTX to be more expensive than the 4870 with less performance.

Im probably gonna get this card. Even though my 2 8800GT's beat it in the benchmarks, ive had nothing but problems with SLi and im done with it for a good while. I would go with the 4870, but my motherboard is made by nvidia and im not sure how great that would work out.

Why in the world would you say that? the 260 is about 25% faster than the GTX in some cases a bit less, in others a lot more.

Yeah, I'm gonna be happy to leave SLI for a while. But i'll be happy to get back into it later.

Because, one more week and I can't return the GTX's. I'm returning them for a sweet 540 bucks.
Waiting is only going to cost me a lot more money. Why would I keep the GTX's worth 540 and then spend another 200 or 300 somewhere else down the line? That puts me completely at a financial disadvantage.

But are you not running SLI now? 2 9800 GTX's in SLI is faster than a single GTX 260. Wait until Nvidia is forced to drop the price on the GTX 260 and then get a pair.

I dont mean to bust your bubble but at least get a board with 16x/16x if you're going the GTX 260 route just my opinion though to make full use of those cards.

No, cause then i'll have two 9800's lying around. I know that the single 260 is less performance, but with SLI it won't be.

I'm returning the 9800's.

Frankly, that's just another expense I don't want to make. I'm sure performance won't be that different, if it is, maybe i'll upgrade to an x16 motherboard when the new nehalem socket becomes available.

All this talk about nVidia dropping prices is funny as hell. nVidia will not drop prices on these cards due to the cost it takes to make them. Not only that.. But I don't remember nVidia dropping prices on their cards due to ATI. Heck only NOW do you even see the 8800 GTX/Ultra go for $400 new on SOME sites. Most the Ultra is still $500+ including those on the evga site.

but on average, the mid range cards tend to drop in price over time. Not due to ati, though.

Maybe Nvidia won't drop the prices of the new cards because fanboys will continue to pay more for the Nvidia cards then they are worth. Why pay $400for a GTX 260 when you can get a faster 4870 for $300. Even if you don't have a Crossfire board, for the $800 you would spend on the 2 GTX 260's, you could get 2 4870's and a new motherboard.
