Really Frustrated with Q6600 OC

Thread Starter
Ive been trying for the LONGEST time to get my q6600 up and above 3.55 Ghz which is what its stuck at right now

I currently have the following in it

q6600 go
2GB ballistix 1066
gigabyte g31 microatx mobo (it uses the p35 chipset just has onboard video)

The system is water cooled so temps arent a problem

Right now i have it at 1.45 volts at 395 fsb but when i try to hit 397 or above the system half posts (it doesnt get show hd info just shows clockspeed) freezes and reboots itself.

This is NOT the max fsb the board can take though because ive set it to 440X8 and it boots up just fine when i set the gtlrefv ratio to .54 but doesnt boot when at the default ratio.

I can only change the ratio not the actual voltage.

no matter what i do i cannot get the system to post correctly past 397fsb ive even lowered the ram to 800 mhz and no go. I cranked up the voltage to 1.525 nothing, put +.3 v on fsb voltage nothing, tried all gtlrefv ratios nothiing, I even tried higher fsb's in case there was a fsb whole nothing. I tried 410 405 420 430 440 all with no results.

Any help is appreciated i dont no what else to try.

Which Gigabyte G31 board do you have? I have the GA-G31MX-S2 and no matter what it won't post past 376 FSB, you're at ~394 so my guess is you've reached the limits of the chipset.

Thanks for the reply ^^ seems active here i like it =)

This is my mobo

GA-G31M-S2L

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128078

I know for a fact that it can reach 440fsb it just wont do higher than 396 on a 9X multi which is really really frustrating.

Any ideas?

Would really apreciate it if anyone could help me out

Howdy! Fill in your system sig (in User CP) so people can see what you're working with (e.g. RAM w/timings, etc.) - makes it easier to give advice. Also, post your current voltages - not just CPU, but FSB, SPP/Northbridge etc. That's the stuff people will probably be giving you suggestions about.

There could be an FSB wall, have you tried just getting to 400? Set it at 400, set your RAM to 800, and if it's still not stable try upping your FSB and MCH voltages. I've been wresting with my P35 since I got it and I'm having huge issues. It does NOT like anything above 3.3Ghz. If anyone has suggestions ill be happy to dish out the +rep like no tomorrow

@Whodie: Yes i do have vtt adjustment i think vtt is fsb overvoltage right? i have that and deovervoltage

@seward: Will fill it in right after this post!

@auditt241: I have tried 400 and it will just half post it wont post all the way so i know im close i just cant get it. I tried it with 1.5 volts memory at 800 with auto timings and +.2 v to the fsbvoltage. Im not sure about mch what is it exactly? I dont see a option for adjusting it unless its ddr voltage.

@BLAKIE33: I have the f4 bios the f5d bios is a beta bios which i guess i could give a shot if its stable enough to have on the website i guess it cant hurt. If i do i will post the results but dont stop the tips guys I appreciate them!

@silverbullet132: Well some matx boards are really good i had a biostar T-force matx with an opty 144 back not too long ago and got 2.8 easy without even touching volts that much. This is a really nice board since it can hit 440fsb its just the dam cpu or something thats hindering it from clocking correctly.

I apreciate all the tips guys and ill definately rep anyone who can help get me above 3.6!!!!

O and i forgot to post my current settings!

here they are from the bios

vcore(with vdroop): 1.412
ddrvoltage: 2.144
+3.3v(i think this is the fsb voltage?): 3.360
fsb is currently at 395
multi is at 9
so current clock is 3.55ghz

Memory is at 2.50 divider and is running at 988mhz at 5-5-5-15 timings

UPDATE

OMG This MOBO IS ROCKING LOL new bios f5d and rocking it at 3.7 now going to go as high as i can!!!

Gotta love the MATX 60 dollar MOBO LOL

VTT isn't quite the same as FSB voltage, but should still be ok.

Trying jumping to 405 FSb and see if it will post.

Also set your RAM TRFC to 52 and TRRD to 5 for now
