[FUD] Microsoft will continue updates on XP till 2014

Will get security patches and critical updates until 2014

Although most sales of Windows XP will cease at the end of this month, except for the low-cost subnotebook market space, Microsoft says that they are committed to continue support for Windows XP with ongoing security patches and other critical updates.

A recent letter that Microsoft VP Bill Veghte sent out to customers indicates that they will continue to provide security patches and other critical updates until April of 2014.

Microsoft says that they realize that customers want to continue to use their Windows XP PCs and this commitment is in response to customer demand. This additional time will allow customers to transition to a new PC with a newer version of Windows on their own timeline.

It is surprising that Microsoft will continue to update Windows XP with security updates, as well as additional critical patches. This is good news, especially for corporate and enterprise customers that continue to reject Windows Vista for large-scale roll out into their environments. Many corporate and enterprise customers have expressed a desire to skip Windows Vista and move directly to Windows 7 when it is released.

I was thinking this may have been posted previously though don't remember if it was. Other than that, nice to see this.

I only pray that either MS or some third party gets DX 10 working on XP ...

Vista has been nothing but a slicked crap chute for me.

I've had it with all this "Windows XP" crap. Everyone knows that the best OS is without a doubt, Windows 98. A simple, fast OS that does everything I need.

98 can run excellently on 256mb of ram, XP is so bloated, I have heard reports of some people needing up to an ENTIRE GIG of ram just to get it to work!

And as for DX9, well, enjoy your lame water effects, while I get 102 FPS in Lego Island.

I tried to update my other Pentium II rig to XP and got tons of errors! A good OS would be more backwards compatible.

Way to fail, fanboys.

sarcasm lol

Your the fanboy, Everyone knows windows 3.1 with it box of floppies for installs was and still is number one. Whats with this start button crap? Why should I have to click start to run a program? Also 8 bits of color is more than what any one will ever need. You guys and your fancy pantsy 256k colors and 32 bit true colors. I swear you guys on xp, 98, me, and me2(vista) need to learn what a real operating system is. Plus bring back 5 1/4 floppies. I liked having a B drive.

Sarcasm ftw

It'll never happen. Ever. Go read up on this and you'll see that DX10 was reworked from the ground up and just isn't compatible with Xp. It wasn't written for XP and no-one can get it to work on XP. Stop being a cheapskate and either upgrade to Vista, or stick with XP.

I know. They should just cut the cord already and force people to upgrade. Then people will actually see they've had no valid reason to stick with XP over Vista.

All this fancy new tech and people stick with XP (and often install Vista skins and sidebars which makes me laugh because they then use as much RAM running WindowBlinds and Yahoo gadgets as they would running Vista)
