whats wrong with my cpu?

Well i figured out my motherboard was dead so i sent it back to new egg. and i tested my cpu in a friends computer and it works but it seems to run really hot, more than normal, is my cpu dead? before my computer died i had my Pentium D oc'ed to 4.1ghz.

Could have just been a bad HSF mount? Did you try re-seating?

Was it the same cooler, same thermal paste, same ambients? All of these will affect the temps.

That will be why, the stock HSF is no competition for a 9700. I would definitely not be worried about your temps, they are fine. It si expected if you go froma customer cooler to the cheap stock one
