I have a a 20GB WD from my first non-Mac computer bought in '99 that I have in a GNU/Linux folding rig.
I've had one Maxtor fail one me (six between me and four friends), and the new Seagates I own are noisier than even my oldest PATA WDs.

I mostly stick to Western Digital, of the 6 WD drives I've owned only one has failed (150GB Raptor).

I stick to Seagates as I've never seen one die, ever.

I'll use WD in a pinch if I have to.

I will never use a Maxtor, they are complete rubbish.
