X38/48 are fully 2x16 PCI-E capable of the best CF. I have a DFI DK X38 and couldn't be happier unless somebody gave me the X48 of the same board for free (see my OC in my sig, E6400's start a 2.13GHz).

I have the standard X38 Dark but even a Conroe n00b like me had little difficulty getting almost 3800 stable. I just can't stand the fans screaming so I geared down for quiet and stable folding as the temp rise this time of year

The board I have has 4x PCIe all at 16x BUT when you put more then 2 cards in it the 2nd and 3rd card go 8x, and when you go with 4 cards it goes to 8x each slot.

So basically it's like a pseudo-P45, those boards have 2 PCI-E x16's, but with 2 cards they revert to x8/x8.

As far as I know, x48 chips are just higher binned x38 chips. But don't quote me on that.
