Have you checked your PCI card(s)? Try taking out your sound card and see if it keeps happening. Run on one stick of RAM for a while, then the other. Try to eliminate every possibility, no matter how unlikely.

My sound card has been running there months flawlessly, think its even possible for it to be causing issues after so long?

I wouldn't rule it out based on that!

based on the few who have had a cpu die, sounds like a psu/mb error killed it

Have you tried bumping the SB or Chip set voltage?

Sound like ram or an unstable cpu, and possibly a bad drive or something but that is quite rare. Crashing apps is almost always caused by ram/cpu though. If the cpu were dying it would power the system off or lock up to a black screen, followed by no post at all. Have you tried looser timings or taking out a stick of ram? Memtest can pass even if it is failing.

My CPU and RAM and mobo are all on stock settings, i didn't bother overclocking any of that since with my stock CPU cooler i wasn't going to get much of a performance difference. That and i really didn't need the power.

You have 4 RAM modules, do you not?
You might still want to try some minor bumps.
