  • Less consoles sold, means less people buy games, less people buy games, less games make for the ps3. Get my drift?
  • Now that they took an even bigger lost to the tune of 3 billion dollars, they are further in the red. They can't press restart like MS can because MS is making money off the 360, games, Accessories, Games for Windows, vista, and XP.
  • Not only does MS have way more money then sony has, MS' products are bringing in more moneythen most of sony's products. I'm pretty sure sony only makes about 300-400 dollars per TV sold since they don't even make their own TVs. Where as MS can make 200-300 per vista/xp license sold. But compare the number of people who buy ONLY SONY TVs vs the number of people who buy a windows computer on a daily basisThen also count the windows mobile platform in there as well. MS is in the software business, so they don't really need anyone to help them out. Sony is in the Hardware business but they mostly design their products and have someone else build it for them. Samsung makes Sony's TVs.

    Taken from CNET

great, so now I can't buy Sony products because Samsung makes their stuff... oh well, there's always Sharp.

On topic...yeah that sucks...oh well, I gave up on consoles, I let my friends buy them, I'll stick with comp.

I guess you weren't around for the ps2 launch, eh? I had to RMA two PS2's in a row because they burned circular lines in all my games rendering them unplayable. I can think of two friends off the top of my head who have PS2 reading errors on their PS2s and they didn't even buy them at launch like I did.

I'm not a MS fanboy by any means, but I'm just pointing out that all companies have their defective products during different eras. The PS3 is without a doubt a much more reliable system than the Xbox 360. But the original Xbox was much sturdier (in addition monstrous) than the Playstation 2.

the original MGS for PS1 is being released onto the PSN Store and Xbox Live i believe. no mainstream title MGS is being released on Xbox360 as far as im aware.

and seriously, if this was a 'life-threatening' problem to Sony they would have cut their losses already. you dont create a billion dollar corporation without having investors and assessors look closely into the near and distant future regarding market development and sales.

by the end of the PS3's lifespan, i believe that sales will even out as a whole, which includes games, accessories etc, ones loss will be anothers gain if you catch my drift. eventually it will come out on top.

but then by that time, the PS4 will come out, and repeat process. its just how their industry functions i guess.

Actually, I think both the Xbox360 and PS3 will last quite a while before the next gen consoles will come out. While the Wii might need a replacement in between.

I agree with you on the format war thing though. Sony used the PS3 to skew the blu-ray player sales number in order to win the format war. So even if they lose millions at the end of the PS3's life, they'll make more from the royalties from the blu-ray licensing.

SONY has not been that since prob mid/late 90's!!!

the 80's were SONYS best years!!
you paid that wee bit extra for stuff,
but you were getting that extra bit of build quality and robustness...

These days...i do not touch SONY as anything i have bought off them in the 21st Century has passed away LONG before its time -
and its always magically outside the warranty period as well OR the product fault is not covered!.....

Just looking back i had to get the lense sorted in my original PS
(was not covered under warranty)
I then had to buy a replacement PS eventualy after 2/3 years!

PS2...same thing....after 2/3 years....lense would not read anything and eventualy had to get a slim line!!

Minidisk...stopped recording after 2/3 years...SONY awnted £100 just to look at the problem!

SONY DVD/VCR - VCR stopped working properly in under 2 years....DVD player was mince meat after 2 years....

YET...my SONY LP record dck that was bought in 1982 still works and sounds better than some CD units sold today!....

PS3 i see as a cheap blue ray player that plays games...
PS3 WOULD have been a lot cheaper than it is IF blueray was not installed...
BUT if BlueRay was not installed in the PS3, i do not think BlueRay would have come out ahead of HD-DVD!

In short SONY used the PS3 name to get BlueRay up there above HD-DVD...and it worked!
BUT
WHat they are left with now is a console thats very expensive leaving SONY with negative equity of each console sale!

and who is going to go out and pay over the odds for a console when the same games are prety much coming out on the PC & 360?!

ramble over...but just my £1 to the SONY debate....

Sweet! thats awesome to hear. Gives developers indication to move to PC now doesn't it .

If sony actually sold the ps3 to breakeven it would sell for $1300-1500 AUD easily. The fact that they make a loss for every ps3 they sell.
