upgrading cpu, is it going to do much?

Thread Starter
If I upgraded my 4200+ 2.2ghz to the 4800+ 2.5Ghz, would there be any noticable performance perks?

Then a motherboard upgrade would be a better option then a new CPU

first of all what are you trying to do with the computer? What are the user demands upon it? then we can assess whether or not you even need to OC anything or upgrade. You guys are basically telling him to OC or ditch the motherboard and you dont even know what he is using the comp for... Silly! I think you will find that if you are gaming, its not your CPU holding you back, its the video card/s. Everything you have is nice... I would go with a 4 drive raid 0 though. I noticed a large increase in repsonse time and multitasking ability when i jumped from a 2 drive raid 0 to a 4 drive raid 0. I am running that 4 drive raid on a dual opteron 854 rig, on an ASUS K8N-DL mobo with 2gb ECC DDR 400. This machine will devour any game, the only thing that holds it back is the lack of a decent video card. However, i dont use it for gaming. I use a Quad-FX rig for gaming with a high end SLI.

A difference is possible in multitasking and video stuff, as the 4800+ has double the L2 cache...IMO, you can go for the X2 5200+
