Age of Conan using Ati 4870 and 4850?

Thread Starter
I am curious to know about Age of Conan running in a similar rig to mine with the above mentioned graphics cards or even some review comparing these and the GTX 280/ 260.

Has anyone got these cards with a similar rig? I would like to know how well it plays, in terms of FPS and general asthetics etc.

As I have been away from the gaming scene as far as the high requirement games go, I would like to know how well theoretically my rig will run with my intended setup etc.

Thanks again, you guys are an endless source of knowledge

Actually, AOC does take more then the average system to play at it's highest settings. I'm playing it with everything maxed with 4xaa at 1680x1050. My highs hit about 90 and my lows drop to 35. I'd say my average frame rate is around 45-50 fps.

Hopefully you don't get the same bug I do where hte game refuses to break like 15fps average no matter what resolution or graphical settings you use (i.e. high@1680x1050 = low@1024x768, not 1 fps better). It seems it happens to one in every few people, even if they are using GTX280s, 8800GTS, etc.

Are you sure you don't have some sort of frame cap accidently turned on?

I'm sure either one of those cards will handle AOC just fine.

I have a 4850 and have played AoC on my sig rig. I can run EVERYTHING on max [all distances to max, max AA] and it still gets around 40 fps. To be honest, the AA makes very little difference in frame rates on my 4850, which was not the case of my previous 8800gt.

Either card [4850 or 4870] will run the came comfortably

1680x1050 in my case

I run AoC maxed at 1280x1024 with 4xAA and everything maxed and I get 50FPS, it dips to maybe 40FPS in crazy areas.

Edit: That's just with a 4850, I've been having driver issues trying to run crossfire

100% positive. If you check out the forums you will see the technical section is a disaster and there are many threads with people withthe same issues I have. Plus reinstalling the game would reset settings like this, and I have done so twice

But yeah, a 4850 or 4870 should be easily able to run it maxed out at a decent resolution.

Thanks for the replies guys, it answered a few of my questions that I had left about the card and how well it runs AOC.

As a side note you think it would be better to run under xp 64 bit or vist 64 bit? I have 8 gigs of ram and I heard the problems with vista being slow was mainly a ram issue. With 8 gigs of corsair dominator you think I will still feel like I am walking through mud?
